The Oral Care for People with Additional Needs online course is aimed at healthcare professionals, caregivers, and support staff who provide care to individuals with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities. It is also suitable for family members or anyone involved in supporting the oral health of people with additional needs.
This Oral Care for People with Additional Needs course will help you to recognise the importance of mouth care, improve your knowledge and enable you to care for someone’s mouth. All healthcare professionals including nurses and care staff have a vital role in promoting good oral health, supporting and enabling effective mouth care and preventing discomfort and inadequate nutrition. Please note: You are not expected to diagnose problems in the mouth but to recognise when an individual may need support or referral to a dental team. Once you have completed the knowledge test, you will receive a CPD accredited certificate.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

The course is broken down into bite-sized modules. You're free to spend as much or as little time as you feel necessary on each section, simply log in and out of the course at your convenience.
You can study the course any time you like. Simply log in and out of the web-based course as often as you require. The course is compatible with all computers and most tablet devices etc. so you can even study while on the move! As long as you have access to the internet, you should be able to study anywhere that's convenient.
Once you have completed all the modules there is a multiple-choice test. The questions will be on a range of topics found within the modules. The test, like the course, is online and can be taken at a time and location of your choosing.
If you don’t pass the test first time then you will get further opportunities to take the test again after extra study. There are no limits to the number of times you can take the test. All test retakes are included within the price of the course.
Once you have completed your test you can log in to your account and download/print your certificate any time you need it.
We estimate that the entire program is likely to take around 2-4 hours to work through initially, but you may want to allow more time to repeat some areas. You should allow an additional 30 minutes for the end of course test.

E-Learning Format
This eLearning is accessed through a dedicated learner portal. Your course material is presented in an interactive and easy to follow presentation enabling you to study at your own pace.
The course is divided into simple sections with a short quiz at the end of each to test your knowledge. Once you have progressed through each of the course sections you can complete an end of course quiz which consists of multiple-choice questions based on the material that you have studied.
Once you have passed the course you can download your fully accredited CPD certificate (PDF format) directly from your learning account.
Test Retakes
If you don't pass the first time, don't worry, you can resist the test as many times as required - until you pass.
